The wonders of nature are endless, and the oddballs often prove the rules about
adaptation, natural selection, evolution. That's why it's interesting to
study the organisms that do strange things -- the "evergreen" pine tree that
turns yellow and drops its needles in the fall; a frog that freezes solid and
lives; a tiny mammal with a poison bite. These are just a few examples of
